2G: Judge questions-"Why everybody falls sick after arrest?"

New Delhi, Nov 10: The Delhi High Court has raised the pertinent question that is in the minds of the public regarding an accused falling sick as soon as he/she was arrested. Speaking on the sidelines of the bail plea of 2G accused and Bollywood producer Karim Morani, Justice V K Shali sought to understand the curious case and commented, "Why everybody falls sick once he is taken into custody"?

Justice Shali was hearing Morani's bail plea which he had sought on medical grounds when he made the comment. Morani has been jail after he was named in being involved in the 2G spectrum case.

Lawyer Sidharth Luthra who was appearing on behalf of Morani had argued for his client's release and said that Morani was a heart patient and his health was "deteriorating". Luthra had sought an interim bail for Morani.

Morani's interim bail plea was heard on Wednesday and was rejected by court with the Tihar Jail authorities asked to submit his latest medical documents on Dec 1, which is the next date of hearing. Justice Shali has aslo sought a list of witnesses against Morani.

Special Judge O P Saini who is hearing all cases related to the 2G spectrum scam had rejected the bail pleas of Kanimozhi, Morani and many others in spite of the CBI not opposing their bail pleas. Morani's bail plea was dismissed on grounds after it noted that his medical records did not suggest that the "standard of illness of Morani is so high as to categorize his custody as detrimental to his health".

Morani was nailed by the CBI after it issued a chargesheet in his name for facilitating the alleged transaction of bribe money of Rs. 200 crore to DMK-run Kalaignar TV from Shahid Usman Balwa-promoted D B Group firm. Morani was accused of receiving Rs. 6 crore as kickbacks for the same.
